We’ve made some changes to the conference to support a broader range of writers, from beginners to those ready to get their books into the world. Check out our incredible faculty involved in all of the three major elements of the new conference.
Work closely with a faculty author and their agent or editor and with a small group (6-10) of peers to get your manuscript ready for publication. Each workshop meets from 9-noon on October 22-24 and blends craft instruction, manuscript critique, and publishing skill-building. Manuscript requirements will vary depending on the faculty team, but these intensives are all designed to help you move your book project closer to publication.
Cost is $1,000 and includes three mornings of workshop, lunches, and registration in the afternoon conference.
For those eager for a mix of conference experiences including presentations, panels, classes, and Q&As, the stand-along conference registration gives you access to all of this programming in the collegial setting we are known for. Afternoon conference registration is included in the workshop registration fee or can be reserved separately to allow writers earlier in the manuscript process and newer writers to learn from our faculty and to build community, skills, and knowledge in a more casual setting.
Cost for afternoon conference-only registration is $250 and includes all afternoon programming.
A limited number of short manuscript critiques provided by local authors are available to afternoon conference attendees for an additional $100.
A very limited number of extended manuscript critiques provided by local authors are available to afternoon conference attendees for an additional $100.
Building on a lively collection of after-conference events, this year we open the doors of the conference to the public with a series of open mics, readings, conversations and book signings to celebrate writers.
Evening activities are free, open to the public, and include light refreshments and/or cash bar.
Manuscript critiques are an important part of our conference, providing a way for you, the writer, to discuss your work one-on-one with experienced writers, editors, and agents. Read through our guidelines on the critiques and be aware of limited critique availability with individual faculty.
We are a resident organization of a vibrant arts facility with multiple meeting and classroom spaces as well as a full-sized theater. The Center is within walking distance of the town’s many amenities, eateries, and hotels, including our conference hotel, The Anvil Hotel.
The Anvil Hotel serves as basecamp for the conference. The Anvil is just three block from The Center for the Arts with the town square in between. This means conference attendees have easy access to all of the restaurants, shops, and galleries in downtown Jackson.
