Almost Authors

Almost Authors is a writing craft camp series for young writers (9 -14ish) where they are able to learn from the authors whose books they read and love. Sessions require registration and cost $75 each. Scholarships are available and accessible through our registration form. The camps will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Hansen Hall from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on session dates.

Jackson Hole Writers and our partners provide materials, lunch and snacks and the opportunity to purchase books by the author-mentors. Maximum of 20 attendees. See the schedule and our guest authors below.

Registration now open! Please email Matt Daly for further information about the program and scholarship opportunities at info@jhwriters.org.

Almost Authors 2026!

One week, two great writing camps. Join us for either or both. Scholarships available.

This year we are offering two weeklong camps, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, August 17-21.

The morning camp, led by a nationally-known author we will announce soon, will focus on all of the elements of writing a story. Students will gather ideas, develop vibrant characters and settings, outline a compelling plot, draft scenes, and revise for a finished story.

The afternoon camp, led by Jackson Hole’s very own award-winning author, Nanci Turner Steveson, will focus on transforming a story into a performable script. Participants can either bring one of their stories to the camp or, if also attending the morning camp, use their writing from the week to write a script and then to work with peers to create a staged reading for a final Friday celebration.

Each camp is $250 or sign up for both and receive lunch and a discount. Scholarships are available and all students are welcome. Email info@jhwriters.org to discuss scholarship funding.

“[my son] is  overflowing with excitement about his writing after each one, you all are doing something very very right :)”

Creating Your Story World

Wednesday, July 16th

10am to 2:30pm

St. John’s Episcopal Church

Nanci is an author of literature for middle-grade kids (so far), but a lot of adults love her books, too. She writes realistic fiction about things that matter. She doesn’t shy away from subjects that are sensitive, that might make you laugh a little too loud, or grab a tissue to wipe away a tear. She writes books about real-life stuff, with characters who are like us, in places you will find familiar even if you’ve never been there yourself. And, of course, there are always lots of animals and trees.
